Management Information Systems

Çankaya University’s Management Information Systems Department offers a 4-year undergraduate program, excluding the English preparatory class. The rapid advancements in information technologies, the vast amount of data businesses possess, and the opportunities to effectively use this data in decision-making processes have transformed the concept of “data” from a simple term into a strategic asset for organizations. Possessing only information technology knowledge is no longer sufficient for storing data, accessing it for specific purposes, analyzing it, and turning it into actionable decisions that positively impact business profitability. In addition, it is necessary to have knowledge of business, economics, and finance to understand how information can be used within organizational structures and goals, as well as to evaluate its relevance and contribution.

For this reason, the program’s goal is to educate graduates who integrate management and information disciplines; who can create, store, and access information; and who can generate new insights from stored data. Furthermore, graduates are expected to have analytical thinking skills and be capable of understanding, designing, and managing management and information processes. To achieve this, the program is structured around three main areas: management, information technologies, and data analytics.

The vision of our department is to provide education that combines theory and practice in management information systems, enabling our students to contribute value to both society and organizations. Therefore, the program emphasizes global competitiveness, teamwork, ethics, and innovation. Faculty members’ research activities support both theoretical and practical training, preparing our students to become future leaders.

The management area of the curriculum includes business, economics, and finance courses necessary for the effective management of organizations. The information technologies area provides both theoretical and practical knowledge in software and information systems. The data analytics area focuses on applying methods to derive knowledge from stored organizational data by integrating information and management knowledge.

Graduates of the program are expected to acquire the following qualifications: understanding IT infrastructures and following technological developments, designing and implementing information systems suitable for organizational structures, gaining the necessary software knowledge for IT and being able to use software effectively, learning to capture, clean, store, and prepare business-related data for use, anticipating the data and software needs of organizations, monitoring organizational management processes based on data, generating decisions from database information that positively affect business efficiency, and following the latest developments in information systems.

Laboratories

The department has computer laboratories equipped with the necessary software and hardware for courses in information systems, software, and data analytics. In addition, data terminals to be used in applied courses are also available.

They may also work as customer relationship management, supply chain management, and enterprise resource planning specialists, as well as system analysts and designers, database analysts and designers, data scientists, and project managers in public and private institutions.
